NPR’s All Things Considered did a story today about the Vendy awards, given to New York City’s best food cart. One of the women interviewed raved about the food at a particular cart, saying “I love New York. It’s the only city in the world where you can get good food this cheap.”
Now. If you know me, or have read the subtitle of my here blog, you can probably guess how I feel about that. The food cart to which she was referring, Kwik Meal, sells pita sandwiches for $4, $5, and $6 dollars. I am sure they are delicious! But come on. Did she really believe New York City is the only place in the world where you can get delicious food for that amount of money?
I can show you the way.
Step one: Come to Buffalo.
From there, I have some choices for you.
Step Two: Go to Lagniappes (Allen St. b/w Mariner and College, Allentown, Buffalo) and
order a $4 bowl of their Chicken and Sausage Gumbo (or their Okra Gumbo, for the vegetarians)
Alternate Step Two: Go to Teta’s (NW corner of Transit and Casey, East Amherst, just past Mighty Taco) at lunch time and get one of their $2.99 pita sandwich specials
Alternate Step Two: Go to Street Café and Halal Foods (Main St. at Fillmore Ave., Buffalo) and order their $4 Tandoori half-chicken and a whole piece of their Nun (naan) for $1 extra.
Alternate Step Two: Visit Lone Star Fajita Grill (Hertel near Parker, Buffalo) and order one of their $3.10 fajitas
Alternate Step Two: Go to any Mighty Taco location and order a Super Mighty pack. Or an El Nino burrito.
Any other suggestions?
